We are leaving everything there as it is, but we encourage all MyFamily.com members to move all discussions, etc., over to lakecentral1988.com. The MSN site we used for our photo albums is no longer available. The photos have been moved to a Yahoo photo album that we link to from the main lakecentral1988.com site. We are working on an improved photo album that will be hosted on the lakecentral1988.com site itself.Teacher SpotlightNo Teacher Spotlight this newsletter, due to, summer vacation. He is currently living in St. John, IN and is not married or dating anyone at this time. He attended St. John Evangelist till high school. He attended Lake Central all four years. After high school he attended Purdue Calumet for 1 ½ years for Engineering. Paul started playing guitar at age nine. He started playing in bands at the age of 14. The guys in the bands were twice his age. A few bands he belonged to were Mesquite, Archer and Alliance. He was going to college and playing in bands at the same time. School was important to him, but in the same time playing in a band was important too. At age 19 he started playing Blues music with local bands and shows all over the U.S. He was trying to get himself in the music industry, meeting and getting to know lots of people. This is how he would be able to make it big someday. From age 20 – 24 he was working part time in the music stores and meeting lots of people. This is where he met up with Jeff Boyle and he helped him with jingles, which were put in TV commercials. Paul wanted more than that, so he went back to playing music in the bars in Chicago for about three more years and also working in the music stores and getting to know more important people in the music industry. Paul attended a Retail Music Trade Show in Chicago. He met a Blues musician and Paul began playing some of the instruments at his area. He talked with him and he met up with other music professionals. In 1998 he moved back to Indiana, he says the Chicago life style was just too busy. He was playing in a band with Carl Weathersby. Carl Weathersby played with Albert King and Eddie Kendricks. Carl went solo in 1996 and released his own album. At the end of 1998 the guitarist was leaving and Carl asked Paul to join his band. Paul accepted his offer after went to hear his band play. In January 1999 Carl received a Grammy nomination. Paul is still touring with him today. Thinking of taking an exotic vacation? Paul has this advice for you: "I travel all year round and all over the world. If you are traveling and want a place to go I highly recommend Japan. This is because the culture is so different than the U.S. It doesn’t look anything like the U.S. It’s very clean, they have more discipline and they are very polite. It’s just totally different from anywhere." You may visit the web site at www.carlweathersby.com If you would like to contact Paul you may do so by signing the Guest list or emailing us.Reunion NewsI’m still looking for people interested in being on our Reunion Committee. I only have one Scout copy (April 22, 1988 Vol. 22, No.12). 1988 Quiver article: Letter Winners – Wahoo Banquet“On May 31 the annual Wahoo banquet at Teible’s restaurant took place and honored those athletes who gave it their all and showed the necessary talent to earn a letter. The dinner speaker was Jim Gibbons, ESPN announcer at Notre Dame. He stressed the importance of education, leadership and all-around attitude. He also talked about “the little people” in sports – those who try their best, and although may not show present talent, show immense possibility in making LC sports great. Most everyone had a good time, and the Athletes of the Year were announced; Male Athlete was Mark Evans and Female Athlete was Dawn Stavitzke. I didn’t, until I read the article in The Times Newspaper on Monday, July 21, 2002. In the Monday, July 21, 2002 paper titled “School transfer option off to slow start locally” was very interesting. “District in the region have had few requests under new federal policy. Few local children appear headed to new schools in the fall, despite a transfer option provided by federal law this year.” “230 schools were flagged statewide for having failed to show enough improvement in the academic achievement of low-income students.” “Eventually, all schools will be tracked.” “Schools were flagged after failing for two or three consecutive years and showing at least a 5% improvement on standardized test scores.” “A two year failure rate means students can transfer to a better performing school in the same district, provided there’s room. A three year failure rate means students can either transfer or receive federally funded tutoring.” Some area schools are planning an information meeting before school is back in session in August. In Tuesday, July 22, 2002 The Times newspaper I read the following:Why are few parents considering a move for their children? “For one thing, schools are still sorting out the kinks in this new transfer policy. For another, not many parents might be aware of this new improvement.” “Whatever the reason – generally satisfaction with their schools or comfortable with what they know or not knowing about their options – parents are not jumping at the chance the government is offering.” “Students, high risk or not, are entitled to the best education their schools can offer.”The Last WordIf you have any suggestions or comments regarding this newsletter please use the contact us links.
